FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYKESVILLE, MD & BOSTON, MA – NeuImmune Inc. (“NeuImmune”), a biotechnology company pioneering precision glycoengineered biologics for orphan disease and enhanced immunologic delivery for specific disease conditions today announced a strategic collaboration with Ginkgo Bioworks Holdings, Inc. (“Ginkgo”), a leader in cell programming and synthetic biology, to develop innovations that strengthen and reduce the costs of domestic biomanufacturing of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to treat infection by filoviruses such as Ebola (EBOV) and Sudan Viruses (SUDV).
Collaboration Overview
Under the agreement, NeuImmune will leverage its proprietary geCHO BioDesign platform, which is capable of generating uniformly produced human-like glycoforms of therapeutic proteins and vaccine antigens. Ginkgo will apply its advanced cell-programming foundry, automation, and data/AI infrastructure to optimize production, scale manufacture, and support analytics of these glycoengineered biologics.
“Filoviral hemorrhagic fevers continue to be a serious global health risk, with 30–90% mortality, depending on the viral genus,” said Thomas Fuerst, Founder and Chairman of NeuImmune. “With our proprietary geCHO BioDesign platform and our deep expertise in precision engineering of biologics with distinct glycosylation signatures, we look forward to collaborating with Ginkgo to advance novel antibodies to treat these devastating viral infections. This strategic collaboration with Ginkgo will be foundational to leverage the strengths and platforms of our two companies to address this national security need.”
This project has been awarded through the Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Preparedness Consortium (BioMaP-Consortium), a consortium overseen by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) and managed by Advanced Technology International (ATI), and funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR); BARDA, under Other Transaction (OT) number #75A50123D00003.
